Siapa yang suka berlibur? Pasti teman-teman semua suka ya. Apalagi kalau diakhir semester, pasti yang ditunggu-tunggu study tour bukan? Namun kali ini kita harus bersabar dulu yah, karena pandemi Covid-19 sedang melanda Indonesia.

Sambil menunggu dan berdoa agar pandemi ini segara berakhir, yuk kita lanjutkan pembelajaran bahasa Inggris kelas 10 bab 5, masih tentang teks deskriptif meneruskan materi bahasa Inggris bab sebelumnya.

Descriptive Text of Niagara Falls

Jika di bab sebelumnya, kita sudah membahas mengenai deskriptif teks tentang Taj Mahal, maka pada kesempatan ini, kita akan mengulas teks deskriptif Air Terjun Niagara (Niagara Falls). Ada yang pernah berkunjung ke air terjun Niagara? Semoga kelak teman-teman bisa berkunjung ke sana ya, apakah sekalian dengan belajar di luar negeri atau sekedar wisata. 

VISITING NIAGARA FALLS	Judul
Niagara Falls is the collective name for three waterfalls that cross the international border between the Canadian province of Ontario and the USA’s state of New York. They form the southern end of the Niagara Gorge. From largest to smallest, the three waterfalls are the Horseshoe Falls, the American Falls and the Bridal Veil Falls. The Horseshoe Falls lie on the Canadian side and the American Falls on the American side. They are separated by Goat Island.  The smaller Bridal Veil  Falls  are  also  located  on  the American side, separated from the other waterfalls by Luna Island. There are various attractions that people can enjoy in Niagara Falls, six of them are described here. Air Terjun Niagara adalah nama bersama untuk tiga air terjun yang melintasi perbatasan internasional antara provinsi Ontario di Kanada dan negara bagian New York di AS. Mereka membentuk ujung selatan Ngarai Niagara. Dari yang terbesar hingga terkecil, ketiga air terjun tersebut adalah Air Terjun Horseshoe, Air Terjun Amerika, dan Air Terjun Bridal Veil. Horseshoe Falls terletak di bagian Kanada dan American Falls di bagian Amerika. Mereka dipisahkan oleh Pulau Kambing. Air Terjun Bridal Veil yang lebih kecil juga terletak di bagian Amerika, dipisahkan dari air terjun lainnya oleh Pulau Luna. Ada berbagai atraksi yang bisa dinikmati pengunjung di Air Terjun Niagara, enam di antaranya dijelaskan sebagai berikut. The first to enjoy in Niagara Falls is Cave of the Winds. This attraction helps people get closer to the falls and go face-to-face with the pounding waters of the Falls. People can get soaked on the Hurricane Deck where they are just feet from the thundering waters. Waterproof clothing and sandals are provided. A trip at night when the Falls are illuminated in a rainbow of color is really amazing.Atraksi pertama yang bisa dikunjungi di Air Terjun Niagara adalah Cave of the Winds. Atraksi ini membantu orang lebih dekat ke air terjun dan bisa merasakan deburan air Air Terjun. Pengunjung bisa basah kuyup di Hurricane Deck di mana mereka hanya beberapa meter dari air yang bergemuruh. Pakaian tahan air dan sandal disediakan. Perjalanan malam hari saat Air Terjun disinari dengan warna pelangi sungguh menakjubkan.               The second charm is Maid of the Mist Boat Tour. It is a world-famous scenic boat tour of the American and Canadian Falls for about a half-hour ride. People may access the tour via the Observation Tower elevator at Prospect Point in the state park. The boat operates mid-May until late October.Pesona kedua adalah Maid of the Mist Boat Tour. Ini merupakan tur perahu pemandangan terkenal di dunia dari Air Terjun Amerika dan Kanada selama sekitar setengah jam perjalanan. Orang-orang dapat mengakses tur melalui lift Menara Observasi di Prospect Point di taman negara bagian. Kapal beroperasi pertengahan Mei hingga akhir Oktober.The next to visit in Niagara Falls is Niagara Adventure Theater. Here tourists may enjoy the most powerful and involving film experience that brings reality to life on a 45 foot screen. Audience members are given the priviledge to discover the thundering Falls from a completely new and exhilarating perspective, and plunge over them. The theater shows hourly and free multi-language headsets are made available. Tempat wisata di Niagara Falls selanjutnya adalah Niagara Adventure Theater. Di sini wisatawan dapat menikmati pengalaman film yang paling dasyat dan mengena yang menghidupkan kenyataan di layar 45 kaki. Penonton diberi hak istimewa untuk bereksplorasi tentang Air Terjun yang menggelegar dari perspektif yang benar-benar baru dan menggembirakan, dan terjun di atasnya. Pertunjukan teater setiap jam dan tersedia headset multi-bahasa cuma-cuma. Niagara Science Museum is another place to visit.  It is a sanctuary for the preservation and appreciation of old science instruments and philosophical apparatus. Museum Science Niagara adalah tempat lainnya yang bisa dikunjungi. Ini adalah tempat pelestarian dan apresiasi instrumen sains kuno dan perangkat filosofis.The fifth point of interest is Niagara’s Wax Museum of History. Here, life-size wax figures portraying dramatic history of Niagara Falls are presented to guests. They can see Fort Niagara Scene, Indian Village, old store, blacksmith and barber shop scenes and how electricity is made. Wax figures of Julia Roberts, Princess Diana and many more are displayed here, too.Tempat menarik kelima adalah Museum Sejarah Lilin Niagara (Niagara’s Wax Museum of History). Di sini, patung lilin seukuran aslinya yang menggambarkan sejarah dramatis Air Terjun Niagara disajikan kepada pengunjung. Mereka dapat melihat pemandangan Fort Niagara, Desa Indian, toko tua, pandai besi dan pemandangan toko tukang cukur dan bagaimana listrik dibuat. Patung lilin Julia Roberts, Putri Diana dan banyak lagi juga ditampilkan di sini.Finally, people can also enjoy Rainbow Air Helicopter Tours above and around the American and Canadian Falls. The tours start from downtown, next to the entrance to the Rainbow Bridge, and open from 9am to dusk when weather permits. The tours operate every day from second weekend in May until October 31st. Akhirnya, pengunjung juga bisa menikmati Tur Helikopter Udara Pelangi (Rainbow Air Helicopter Tours) di atas dan di sekitar Air Terjun. Tur dimulai dari pusat kota, di sebelah pintu masuk Jembatan Pelangi, dan buka dari jam 9 pagi hingga senja jika cuaca memungkinkan. Tur dijadwalkan setiap hari dari akhir pekan kedua di bulan Mei hingga 31 Oktober.The Niagara Falls are renowned both for their beauty and as a valuable source of hydroelectric power. Passive Voices

Pada bab 5 ini, selain kita belajar tentang teks deskriptif, kita juga akan membahasa mengenai bagaimana membuat kalimat passive dalam bahasa Inggris (passive voices)

Secara umum, passive voice mempunyai rumus sebagai berikut:

S + be + past participle + (by agent)

Keterangan
S : Subjek
be : auxiliary verb (am, is, are, was, were, has been, have been, will be, dll)
past participle : kata kerja bentuk ke 3 (Past pasticiple)
(by agent) : pelaku dari tindakan

Active voice : My father built the house.
Passive voice : The house was built by my father.

Active voice : Ronaldo kicked the ball.
Passive voice : The ball is kicked by Ronaldo.

Perlu diketahui ya teman-teman, dalam membuat passive voices itu tidak terlepas dari tenses, diantaranya simple present tense, present continuous tense, present perfect tense, dan yang lainnya. 

Intinya beda tense, berbeda rumusnya dan yang berbeda hanyalah auxiliary verb-nya (kata kerja bantunya). Untuk lebih jelasnya, teman-teman bisa simak sebagai berikut. 

Simple Present Tense (S + am/is/are + V3)

Active voice : Budi gives me a bag
Passive voice : I am given a bag by Budi.

Present Continuous Tense (S + am/is/are + being + V3)

Active voice : Zahra is feeding fishes.
Passive voice : Fishes are feeding by Zahra.

Present Perfect Tense (S + have/has + been + V3)

Active voice : The students have watched the cartoon.
Passive voice : The cartoon has been watched by the students.

Simple Past Tense (S + was/were + V3)

Active voice : Budi opened the door
Passive voice : The door was opened by Budi.

Past Continuous Tense (S + was/were + being + V3)

Active voice : Zahra was feeding fishes yesterday.
Passive voice : Fishes were feeding by Zahra yesterday.

Simple Future Tense (S + will/shall + be + V3)

Active voice : The students will watch the cartoon tomorrow.
Passive voice : The cartoon will be watched by the students tomorrow.

Future Continuous Tense (S + will/shall + be + being + V3)

Active voice : The class will be studying English at 8 a.m.  tomorrow.
Passive voice : English will be being studying at 8 a.m. tomorrow.
